Tasting Notes
A pungent nose reflects notes of menthol, wood toasty and a type of reduction the Burgundians call bourgeon de cassis. The succulent, indeed juicy medium-bodied flavors possess a lovely texture and fine mid-palate concentration before culminating a minerally yet suave finish that delivers sneaky good length. If this can add more depth with a decade of bottle age it could well merit the upper end of my predicted range. Score: 91-93, Tasted: Apr 15, 2018, Drink: 2026+ Issue: 70. - Burghound
Jean-Charles le Bault de la Morinière of Domaine Bonneau Du Martray poetically said that the 2015 Vintage is a "vintage of the sun though one where our distant star would play different roles at different times. In the spring, the sun jump-started the vines and got the vegetative cycle off to an excellent start; at the beginning of the summer, the intense heat radiated by it made us fear that we might be in for a more difficult time than the spring had suggested; August however would see the warmth and intensity moderate and would serve to perfectly ripen the fruit; lastly, early in September it gave us the perfect conditions under which to bring in a perfectly ripe and clean harvest that began on the 1st and finished on the 7th. Yields for our chardonnay were good if not great at about 32 hl/ha, which is 80% of a normal harvest. Unfortunately they were much lower for our pinot at slightly less than 17 hl/ha or basically 50% of normal. At this point we envision bottling the white in the spring of 2017". - Allen Meadows, www.burghound.com
