Tasting Notes
As with the Cannubi, maceration and fermentation lasts for around 30 days, The Sarmassa cru tends to contain more clay in the soil compared to Cannubi and has a south-westerly aspect, perhaps amplifying the wines’ structure and density on the palate. Enzo says 2018 as a classic and fresh vintage. Loads of dark fruits, like blood plum on the palate here with mineral notes of graphite and iodine and spice notes of anise and earthy tobacco. Sarmassa is powerful and the younger wines are generally quite coiled. 18s are more forgiving with well resolved tannins. These are chalkier and tighter wines young, but there is a lot of beauty to see in what is essentially a baby. - Importer Note
The Brezza private estate lies next to the small town of Barolo, immersed in the vineyards, as is the nearby Hotel Barolo and Restaurant Brezza, also property of the Brezza family.
The estate extends over 31 hectars, of which 20 are vineyards, some dating back to 1885. The wines are all certified as DOCG 'Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita " (controlled and guaranteed appellation of origin) or DOC 'Denominazione Origine Controllata " (controlled appellation of origin). ‚– Winery Note
