Caparzo is one of the historic estates of Montalcino, founded at the dawning of Brunello in 1970 when a group of friends purchased a ruined farm in the region and rejuvenated its vineyards. The estate was a trailblazer in establishing site-driven winemaking, introducing one of Montalcino’s first single-vineyard bottlings—Vigna La Casa—in 1977. In 1998, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini acquired the property and propelled its evolution with thoughtful modernization, expanded vineyards across multiple premier Montalcino sites, and a commitment to innovation balanced with tradition.
Today, Caparzo spans around 90 hectares of vineyards dispersed over diverse soils and microclimates, giving the estate the flexibility to draw on the full spectrum of Montalcino’s terroir. Their range includes expressive Rosso di Montalcino, refined Brunello, vineyard-specific cru bottlings, and even a Supertuscan inspired by regional ambition. With precision in viticulture, hand-harvested fruit, and a cellar that balances modern technique with respect for place, Caparzo crafts wines that express both clarity and structure, honoring tradition while looking forward.
