Tasting Notes
Jumilla in Spain’s southeast is home to some very affordable, yet hot and heavy Monastrell (Mataro/Mouvèdre) wines. However producers such as José Maria Vicente, the 3rd generation custodian at Casa Castillo, are putting Murcia’s Monastrell back on the map with a much lighter touch. Fermented in concrete, the freshness of this entry level Monastrell with a splash of Garnacha is translated into dark fruits and flowers; blackberries and violets are beautifully supported with mineral notes and alpine herbs, rounded out by smooth, silky tannin. - Chris L
