Tasting Notes
Low yields of just 27hl/ha this year due to coulure, instead of a more normal 37hl/ha - so there might be no 2017 Renaissance produced. A tasting of the main constituent parts from barrel suggests a potent, ripe, tannic style. The young Reynards is rich in fruit with good acidity, if high in alcohol; Sabarotte is resolutely Cornas: impenetrable, resinous, firm and saline; Petit Côte and La Côte are fleshy and rich; the older Reynards admirably complete, with a massive, ripe tannic load. Pierre compares it to the 2009, albeit more structured. You'll need to keep this for a while, but it will be rewarding when finally ready. Score: 97. - Matt Wallis, 01 Nov 2018, Drink: 2029-2040 - Decanter
The inconspicuous cellars of Northern Rhône icon, Domaine Auguste Clape lie on the main N86 road that runs through the village of Cornas, hidden away behind a grey garage door. Their Cornas vineyards (7.5 hectares total, comprised of 5.5 ha of AOC Cornas and 1 hectare each of Côtes du Rhône and Vin de Table) are planted on a variety of the best hillside sites in the appellation - Coteau de Tezier, Les Renards, Les Mazards and Chaillot. The Cornas vines are situated on classic crumbly granite based soils with a favourable clay content. The Côtes du Rhône comes from stony alluvial valley floor soils. - Importer Note
