Tasting Notes
When talking about New Zealand Pinot Noir people rave about Central Otago and when they talk about New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc they use to rave about Marlborough. Well I've got news for you... Corofin is from Marlborough and in our minds winemaker Mike Paterson is up there with the best Pinot Noir in the country. Mike specifically and purposefully sources fruit from only the most prestigious vineyards in Marlborough - Settlement, Cowley, Churton... the list goes on.The Churton Vineyard Pinot Noir looks closer to Burgundy than I've ever seen from a New Zealand producer. The organically-farmed vineyard is uniquely positioned between the Waihopai Valley and Omaka's high country, which is has more of a continental climate than Marlborough proper. The wine has red fruits and sweet spice with a mild reduction that are only the beginning of this wines complexity. It's only going to get better with time too. There are wild berries, roses and char.

Both Anna and I have lived and worked in Marlborough for most of our careers and in that time have been lucky enough to gain considerable experience growing, making and marketing Marlborough wine. From our early days here we have always had a desire to start our own small wine business, established without compromise for quality and with complete authenticity. Working together to create something in celebration of our families and their connection to the land, is very important to us. Our ambition with all Corofin wines is to transmit a sense of place first, over fruit intensity or winemaking ambition. We have chosen to work with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay being the two varietals we believe will amplify the transparent expression we seek from the land. We are excited to be working with trusted and admired friends as growers. Their vineyards are all located in Marlborough's southern valleys and we hope our little Pinot Project will shine a light on some pretty special spots in the region our family calls home.
