Tasting Notes
Negroamaro and Nero d’Avola are the two varieties that are perfectly suited to the hot, dry Riverland and the nature of the wines we want to make. When picked early they carry great acidity, with a fruit profile of crunchy, sour raspberry and green strawberry on the front palate. This fruitiness gives way to a lovely earthy, amaro-esque savouriness, the bitter, herbaceous character working in tandem with elevated, juicy fruit. Forest floor vibes held together by a touch of fuzzy tannin and grippy mouthfeel, whilst still remaining fresh, light and moreish. - Winery Note
Delinquente Wine Co. is a small, irreverent project from South Australia’s Riverland, founded in 2013 by Con-Greg Grigoriou. Inspired by his Italian heritage, Grigoriou set out to champion southern Italian grape varieties that thrive in the hot, dry Riverland climate—varieties like Vermentino, Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano and Bianco d’Alessano. These grapes not only suit the conditions but also produce wines of freshness, character and natural balance without excessive intervention.
The fruit is farmed organically by local growers, and winemaking is kept minimal: wild ferments, no additions beyond a touch of sulphur, no fining or filtration. The wines are bright, textural and playful, packaged with bold, tattoo-inspired labels that reflect the project’s rebellious, fun-loving spirit.
Delinquente has become a flag-bearer for Riverland’s new wave—proving the region can deliver vibrant, quality wines that are both accessible and full of personality, with a focus on drinkability and authenticity.
