Tasting Notes
Della Staffa Amare Rosso is a blend of Sangiovese and Colorino, sourced from organically farmed vineyards on the limestone and clay soils of Umbria. Fermented with native yeasts before being aged in fibreglass tanks with no added sulphur, the winemaking is intentionally simple, allowing the vineyard and varieties to take centre stage. The result is a wine that feels unmistakably Italian—bright, energetic and quietly complex, with freshness, fine structure and an easy-going character. - Chris L
Della Staffa is one of the most exciting voices in Umbria's new generation of growers. Based in the rolling hills around Montefalco, the estate is dedicated to expressing the character of indigenous varieties through thoughtful farming and an uncompromising hands-off approach in the cellar.
The vineyards are farmed organically, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity, healthy soils and encouraging the vines to find their natural balance. Every decision in the vineyard is guided by the belief that great wine is grown rather than made, allowing each site and season to speak with clarity.
In the winery, intervention is kept to an absolute minimum. Fermentations occur naturally with wild yeasts, additions are limited, and the wines are handled as gently as possible to preserve freshness, texture and a true sense of place. The result is a range of wines that are vibrant, energetic and unmistakably Umbrian, balancing purity of fruit with savoury complexity and remarkable drinkability.
Della Staffa's wines capture everything we love about contemporary Italian wine: authenticity, restraint and an unwavering connection to the vineyard.
