Tasting Notes
92 Points'Dark red-ruby. Complex aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, fresh blood and bitter chocolate, lifted by a violet note. At once sweet and very firmly built, with blackberry and black cherry flavors framed and lifted by strong spice and floral elements. This, too, promises to be a superb village bottling. (89-92)/2022+ - 'A deft application of wood frames the markedly earthy nose of purple fruit, warm earth and hints of animale. There is excellent richness and focused power to the concentrated, ripe and mouth coating flavors that deliver outstanding depth and length on the rustic and very serious finish. This old school effort is a first-rate Nuits villages and highly recommended " Note: from 7 different lieux-dits though most of it comes from Les Damodes and Aux St. Jacques. - Burghound
Domaine Lécheneaut is run by brothers Vincent and Philippe, who took over the family domaine after the death of their father, Fernand, in 1986.
Today the domaine comprises 10 hectares of vineyard located pre-dominantly in the Côte de Nuits. The brothers have modernised the domaine and gained an enviable reputation for many of their wines, including the Clos de la Roche, produced in miniscule quantities, which is said to be equal to Dujac and Rousseau. They are also known for their Nuits-Saint-Georges cuvées, which are considered amongst the finest produced.
The vineyards here have been run organically since 2000 with a view to improving overall vine health and quality. These results are now being seen in an increase in quality of the fruit.
The wines are produced with all the modern Burgundian techniques and equipment; very low yields, green-harvesting, leaf plucking, a sorting table, de-stemming; cold-soaking, saignées, temperature control during fermentation and some new oak. The élevage is longer than many domaines with 18 months spent in barrel. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration. - Importer Note
