Tasting Notes
This is probably the best value French white in the shop. The nose explodes with apples, lemon, peach, white blossoms and reductive minerality with a taut palate with a supple body. This severely punches above its weight. - Aaron C.
Domaine des Sables Verts is the project of Caroline Meurée and Hervé Malinge, a young winemaking couple who took over the estate in 2019. Based in Varrains, in the heart of Saumur-Champigny, they farm around 16 hectares spread across more than 30 individual parcels, predominantly planted to Cabernet Franc with a small amount of Chenin Blanc.
The vineyards sit on the limestone and tuffeau soils that define this part of the Loire, including prized parcels in Les Poyeux, Chaintres and Les Rouères. Farming is organic, while the cellar work is deliberately restrained, with spontaneous fermentations and élevage across tanks, barrels, foudres and clay jars depending on the site. Their approach is increasingly parcel-focused, producing precise, classical Saumur with beautiful freshness, fine structure and a strong sense of place.
