Tasting Notes

Barolo Mosconi is obtained by vinification in purity of the oldest vineyard belonging to the homonymous property located in Monforte d'Alba. The soil is typically Helvetian of older formation. It is made of clayey calcareous marl with a color that tends slightly towards gray, alternating with siliceous sandstone. In some areas the presence of calcium carbonate and iron gives a warmer chromatic note and a slight tendency towards pink. These soils, located at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, give great structure and typical characteristics of Barolo for long aging. The color is intense brown red; the aroma is generally very open with floral hints, ripe fruit, and some spicy notes. In the mouth you can feel the majestic structure of a solid, dry and velvety wine. - Winery Note

The 2020 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, savory wine. Black cherry, gravel, incense, menthol and licorice all build in this virile, strapping Monforte Barolo.  Ample and authoritative, the 2020 has a ton to offer. Savory herbs, earthiness and strong mineral notes infuse the substantial finish. Superb. 95 points, Antonio Galloni - Vinous

The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Mosconi has some of the extra ripeness of the vintage with cherry cream syrup, grenadine, watermelon candy and a drop of Pastis. The wine ends on a powerful note with a balanced combination of fruit and fine oak tannins. The palate is very alive, and the fruit feels very vibrant at this young stage. 96 points, Monica Larner - Wine Advocate

The Boschis family purchased E. Pira & Figli in 1981, propelling the young Chiara into a role significantly different to that intended by her economics degree. The family was, until recently, proprietors of Barolo's historic Giacomo Borgogno estate (Chiara originally learnt her wine-making skills from her brothers) but she brought her considerable determination, charm, patience and confidence to bear on raising the quality and image of Pira to that which it enjoys today. Her philosophy is to craft wines that marry the extraordinary power of Barolo with approachability, promoting great aromatics, lush textures and elegance. This has been achieved through strict vineyard management, careful selection and impeccable vinification techniques. Beginning as one of only two female oenologists working in Barolo, Chiara is nowadays regarded as every bit the equal of her peers.

Chiara has recently been joined by her brother Giorgio, and the two have expanded their Barolo vineyards to now include Mosconi and Ravera in Monforte and Gabutti in Serralunga.
