Tasting Notes
A fermage, with a mix of vine ages. One third new wood, 40% whole bunch vinification. Mid purple, just a little chocolate with the dark red fruit on the nose. Continues on the palate, mixed happily with the white pepper and the dark raspberry. Just enough acidity, still some tannins but they are fine grained. A fine clean long finish. - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Edouard’s domaine covers just 1.50ha, but provides seven wines. Most of the land has come from the family, with Nuits-St-Georges Aux Allots as a farming contract. Spanning across the Côte de Nuits with plots in Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Confuron name has always resonated very far in Vosne-Romanée with three influential branches (including Jean-Jacques Confuron and Confuron-Cotetidot) of the family owning substantial holdings in the village. So while only just beginning his legacy, he has the strong backing of his family and access to plots rarely accessible to new winemakers of the region.
Edouard plans to certify as organic in the near future, as his family domaine practises organics but has not yet been certified. His wines are made in a small cuverie down on the old RN74, with a cellar attached to the family domaine. Edouard uses more whole bunches than in the family range, and vinifies those cuvées without sulphur, only adding it at the end.
