Tasting Notes
Arborina is the historic family vineyard, the winery and the house sit right on top of it. It’s a beautiful south facing bowl, 10 hectares in total and we own 1.5. Arborina was never really considered till 1980 when Elio was the first one to bottle it separately, Elio always jokes that he made Arborina famous and Arborina made him famous. Up to today there are another five winemakers that release this single vineyard: Mauro Veglio, Giovanni Corino, Renato Corino, Bovio and Marco Curto. Arborina, especially in 2016, is perfumed and gracious, the tannins are silky, supple and nuanced. In general, this is a vineyard that truly represents the characteristics of La Morra, being very bright lifted and feminine. - Silvia Altare
Arguably Italy’s most important fine wine region, Piedmont is synonymous with Nebbiolo, Barolo, and Barbaresco. It’s also home to a wide array of other compelling reds and whites that range from the austere to the juicy and joyful.
LOCATION:
Northwest Italy, bordering France and Switzerland, with the Alps to the north and the Apennines to the south.
TERROIR:
Rolling hills and foggy mornings define Langhe and Roero. Soils are mostly calcareous marl with sandy or clay-rich layers depending on the site. Continental climate with cold winters and warm summers.
VARIETIES:
Nebbiolo is king, producing powerful, tannic reds. Barbera and Dolcetto round out the red trio. For whites, look to Arneis, Cortese (Gavi), and Timorasso. Moscato is important in the Asti area.
