Tasting Notes

One of the most beautiful wines I've had this year. 100% Pineau d'Aunis from Saumur in the Loire Valley. It's pretty and perfumed nose is full of rose petal and raspberry fruit with touches of watermelon and green spice. The palate is fine and elegant and pure. I'm absolutely seduced. - Chris L

Charlotte and Thomas Carsin, husband and wife, own Terre de l’Elu, previously named Clos de l’Elu (however for some reason in France when one changes from AOC to Vin de France, they apparently can’t use the “Clos” anymore). After drinking and enjoying their wines over the last decade, it was a logical choice to ask them to partner with me in bringing their wines to Australia. For me, their attention to detail, precision, and the dedication to their vineyard and at the winery is impressive.

Growing most of the Loire Valley varietals, their location in the Layon, in the Anjou Noir territory represents a pretty unique schist terroir, composed of volcanic rocks, sandstones and quartz. Positioned at the bottom of a valley, the vineyards have escaped most of the frost and bad weather conditions over the last few years.

The methods used by Thomas and Charlotte reflect their passion: no synthetic products in their grassed vineyards, ploughing with a lighter powered tractor, gravity work in the cellar, foot treading and slow pressing.

Thomas has worked overseas (Sonoma Valley, USA), and in different regions of France, essentially in organic viticulture. A consultant in Champagne and Provence, he finally purchased this winery in 2009. The duo has some amazing grapes coming from their vineyard and continue to innovate, aging a good portion of their white and red wines in smaller sized amphora, which seems to suit this style of wine. - Importer Note
