Tasting Notes
This Arbois Rouge Ploussard is fruity, spicy and silky.
The Jura region is one of France's smallest wine regions comprising just 2,500 hectares. However, despite its size, it has grown a steadfast reputation for the sheer quality of its idiosyncratic wines. Fabrice Dodane, owner of Domaine de Saint Pierre is part of a small group of discerning producers, which includes Jean-François Ganevat, who push the boundaries, making stunning, profound and complex wines. The Ploussard vineyard is located in Badans in Arbois, at an altitude of 340 metres above sea level with grey marl and limestone soils.
Due to the difficult year in terms of harvest with small yet excellent quality of grapes, Fabrice decided to get source additional Ploussard grapes from his friends in Arbois to supplement his own and produce more bottles of his Ploussard; therefore in 2023 this wine is labelled under his negoce range, but there is no doubt that the Ploussard inside the bottle holds the inevitable indelible and recognisable signature of Fabrice, who always transforms it into a juice of extreme elegance, finesse and incredibe quality! 100% Ploussard. - Importer Note
Domaine de Saint Pierre is the epitome of a top flight Jura Domaine. Fully Owned since 2011 by the charismatic and pragmatic Fabrice Dodane, the tiny six hectares of vineyards are ideally located in the appellation Arbois in villages such as Vadans, Mathenay, Arbois and Pupillin. Far from being new to the wine scene, Fabrice Dodane studied oenology at the Beaune Wine University in Burgundy before taking the reins of the Cooperative of Pupillin. In 1989, Fabrice had the opportunity to manage Domaine de Saint-Pierre. From there, the three hectares have increased to six and the vineyards have been farmed organically since 2002 with biodynamic practices being implemented right after. The result is staggering with wines of great purity displaying with precision the magnificent terroirs of the Jura. - Importer Note
