Tasting Notes

Le Vin du Rosier is a Zinfandel and Grenache blend, the two varieties picked and fermented separately and de-stemmed, 2 weeks on skins and pressed to stainless steel. The Zin brings dusty, chalky tannins around ripe bunches of red berry and cherry fruit, while the Grenache layers in some spice, brighter acidity and pomegranate with richer, fleshier fruit underneath. The result is a light, dangerously drinkable red jam packed with red berries, blood orange and a touch of campari, with soft tannins and bright, mouth-puckering acidity. Bistro style fun with enough  complexity underneath to keep you interested. - Pete L

Fin Wines is a small fermentation collective based in Dixons Creek in the Yarra Valley, founded in 2020 by JonJo McEvoy, Oliver Johns and Angus Hean. The trio came together through a shared love of wine and cider, with time spent working under Gary Mills at Jamsheed helping shape their relaxed, experimental approach to winemaking.

Their home, the Finyard, was planted in the early 1990s and is dry-farmed, with Chardonnay, Gamay, Savagnin and Riesling growing on grey-red sandy loam over clay. Farming is focused on biodiversity and soil health, while they also work with sustainably farmed fruit from growers around Victoria.

Everything is wild fermented, with gentle handling, no filtration and only small amounts of sulphur used before bottling. The philosophy is deliberately uncomplicated - young, fresh and highly drinkable wines, ciders and other ferments that favour energy and personality over polish or convention.
