Lovely purity and freshness of fruit together with some savoury notes from the solids and wild ferment. Classic grapefruit and dried pear fruits give way to barrel ferment and sulphide complexities. These sulphides contribute a lovely savoury oyster shell or saline character, giving the wine greater complexity and overall purity, and ultimately complementing many modern Australian food flavours. - Winery Note
Flametree is a contemporary Margaret River winery known for producing stylish, expressive wines that highlight the purity and balance of this world-class coastal region. Established in 2007 by the Towner family, the estate quickly gained recognition when its very first vintage won the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy—a rare achievement that set the tone for its ongoing success. Chief winemaker Cliff Royle, formerly of Voyager Estate, leads the team with a focus on elegance, restraint and regional expression.
Fruit is sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites across the Wilyabrup, Yallingup and Wallcliffe subregions, taking advantage of the area’s maritime climate, gravelly loam soils and long, even ripening seasons. The wines—particularly Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon—reflect Margaret River’s hallmark combination of richness, precision and natural freshness.
In the cellar, Flametree’s philosophy is one of minimal intervention and balance: wild ferments, gentle extraction, and judicious use of French oak to frame the fruit without overwhelming it.
