Tasting Notes
Sourced primarily from mature vines near the village of Volnay, this cuvee consistently delivers fragrance and finesse well beyond its Bourgogne level. The proximity to Volnay imparts a lifted, floral character and a sense of elegance that defines the wine year after year.
The 2022 release shows bright red berry fruit—cherry, raspberry, and redcurrant—layered with gentle spice, fresh earth, and a touch of savoury herb. The palate is lively and light on its feet, with juicy acidity and fine, supple tannins providing balance and structure. There's a subtle rusticity on the finish that adds charm without compromising its refined feel. - Pete L
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard was founded in 1985 in Chassagne-Montrachet and have gradually built up their portfolio of choice holdings in some of Burgundy's greatest vineyards. All wines are vinified with native yeasts and since the late 80s, they have purchased their own custom French oak through a courtier de bois (wood broker), who ages the oak for them for two years, then delivers it to a local cooper to finish their custom barrels. This Domaine is a respected mainstay traditionalist Burgundian winemaking.
