Tasting Notes
Nice to see more savoury and complex feel in Mornington Pinot! This wine is complex, delicious and delectable. Plenty of underlying power in the spicy red fruits (like cranberry and red cherry). Taste is spicy fruits and tannin with grip, all coming from the use of concrete tank and longer time in skins. 13.5% alc. Quality. - Michael L
Cuve Béton means concrete tank, and this new bottling was fermented and raised in a single, sealable 5000-litre concrete vessel from the Italian tank maker Nico Velo. This is a noticeably more mineral-tasting wine with deliciously crunchy red fruits, and loads of spices that leap from the glass and flood the palate. There is impressive structure from the long maceration but it's oh-so-fine with powdery, talc-like tannins running the length of the palate. Super, super impressive. - Distributor Note
Garagiste is a boutique winery on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, founded by Barnaby Flanders in 2006 with a focus on small-batch, site-driven wines. The project centres on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, exploring the subtle differences of Mornington’s sub-regions through single-site bottlings from Merricks, Balnarring and Tuerong, alongside carefully crafted regional blends.
The vineyards are farmed with sustainable practices, favouring low yields and close planting to capture intensity and precision. In the cellar, winemaking is minimalist: wild ferments, gentle extraction, sensitive oak use and an emphasis on letting each site speak. The result is a suite of wines that are finely structured, elegant and mineral-driven, marked by purity and regional clarity.
Garagiste has become a leading name in the Mornington Peninsula’s new generation of producers, celebrated for delivering thoughtful, terroir-focused wines that balance immediacy with the ability to age.
