Tasting Notes

Vibrancy and fragrance are the hallmarks of our Riesling. Perfumed citrus and floral on the nose, this wine is full of citrus and stone fruit notes on the palate. It's natural acidity affords a structure that will see it age well moving forward. Hallmark acidity provides dramatic length and liveliness, balanced by residual sugar and creamy lees texture.

Fruit was harvested gently while cold and put direct into press. Following mild clarification, juice fermented at the coolest possible temperate to elongate and moderate fermentation, and protect delicate flavour compounds. At the desired residual sugar level, fermentation was ceased and a 3 month lees stirring program implemented. In addition, for a period of 5 weeks, 2 neutral oak barrels were filled (<5% of volume) to up lees integration & promote textural diversity. - Winery Note

Ghost Rock Wines was established by Cate and Colin Arnold in 2001 on a run-down property just East of Devonport, with only a handful of vines.

There are no neighbours, no-one to follow or copy, no regional ‘manual’ or ‘playbook’ to follow, We’ve had to crack the viticultural code completely independent here. It’s why our pruning program is so tailored, our vine spacings are tailored, our clone mix is tailored, our whole program is tailored and continually tested and teased. Improvement is part and parcel of our business and our team.

There’s nothing earth-shattering or groundbreaking in the winery... it all comes down to the quality of the fruit. We tweak around the edges as every region does; a little less whole-bunch here, a little longer cold-soak there, some oak selections that drive mid-palette and texture perhaps more. It’s all interesting and valid, but it’s not what has us where we are today.
