Tasting Notes
This comes from a high-altitude vineyard at Nashdale in Orange, and it’s a much more serious expression of Chardonnay from Simon and Will Gilbert. There’s white peach, nectarine and preserved lemon, with some smoky reduction and subtle oak adding complexity. The palate has plenty of texture and concentration, but the cool site brings a lovely line of acidity and stony minerality that keeps everything tight. Powerful, complex Chardonnay with plenty of finesse. - Chris L
Gilbert Family Wines began its journey in 2004 by fifth generation winemaker Simon Gilbert. Simon has always had a strong desire to do things his own way and create a label true to himself, at the same time paying tribute to his heritage. The winery and cellar door is based in Mudgee (NSW), with grapess being sourced from Mudgee, Orange, Hilltops and Tumbarumba. Will Gilbert (Simon's son) is now at the helm and the wines have never looked better. Will has gained experience in Burgundy under Benjamin Leroux and you can see this influence in his Pinot Noir's and Chardonnay's, the wines he holds in highest regard. - Winery Note
