Tasting Notes
From a single vineyard at Nashdale, one of the cooler, higher parts of Orange. Simon and Will use a combination of carbonic maceration, whole berries and whole bunches here, giving the wine plenty of perfume and energy. Red cherry and raspberry, florals and spice, with some earthy, savoury notes underneath. It’s light on its feet but there’s good depth and fine tannins through the palate. A fragrant, detailed and distinctly cool-climate Pinot Noir. - Chris L
Gilbert Family Wines began its journey in 2004 by fifth generation winemaker Simon Gilbert. Simon has always had a strong desire to do things his own way and create a label true to himself, at the same time paying tribute to his heritage. The winery and cellar door is based in Mudgee (NSW), with grapess being sourced from Mudgee, Orange, Hilltops and Tumbarumba. Will Gilbert (Simon's son) is now at the helm and the wines have never looked better. Will has gained experience in Burgundy under Benjamin Leroux and you can see this influence in his Pinot Noir's and Chardonnay's, the wines he holds in highest regard. - Winery Note
