Tasting Notes
This is the 15th vintage of the Helm Premium range of Rieslings, a terroir wine sourced for this vintage from the Lustenberger vineyard with the Riesling GM198 clone. Intense lemony / lavender nose, clean bright and lifted. The wine is very delicate and fine, with lingering lime fruit. A beautifully balanced Riesling of acid, fruit, and texture. A high quality wine with many years cellaring potential. - Winery Note
Helm Wines was established in 1973 and was one of the first commercial wineries in the Canberra District Wine Region. Located just outside of Murrumbateman, approximately 30 km north of Canberra, the winery was given a 5 star rating in James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2012. Ken and Judith Helm started the vineyard, winery and cellar door and it continues to be a family affair with all of the family playing an integral part in the business. The winemakers are Ken and daughter Stephanie, who are fourth and fifth generation descendants of German vinedressers from the Rhineland, who established vineyards near Albury and Rutherglen in the 1860s.
The winery uses a combination of modern and traditional equipment and adopts a minimalist approach to winemaking, so that what you get in the bottle is as close as possible to what came out of the vine. We strive to produce premium quality wines that reflect the true characteristics of the grape and the land or 'terroir' in which they have been grown. The cool climate wine country near Canberra allows Helm Wines to produce unique styles of wines that you won't find anywhere else in the world.
