Tasting Notes
This should not be confused with the Beaune Premier Cru of the same name. Meursault’s Clos des Mouches is a tiny monopole belonging to Henri Germain, devoted entirely to Pinot Noir. It could be labelled as Volnay, as are most reds from Meursault, but Germain chooses not to do this, which we find refreshing.
The half-hectare site lies near the Volnay border, due south of Les Santenots. Its old vines (planted in 1949) produce very low yields - under 25 hl/ha in a good year! The site is a true clos, one of the few remaining walled vineyards in Meursault. The 2018 was fermented with 25% whole bunches. - Importer Note
