Tasting Notes
Imagine 9,000 close planted really old bush vines (no trestles to hold up the growth) sitting at 700m on the side of an active volcanic mountain in Sicily producing 5,000 bottles of this beautiful red! You can smell the dark fruit, ripe and with tobacco hints. The taste brings on the ripe, full dark fruit; plus an unmissable tannin mouth-coating. Yet it leaves you with a beautifully ripe and chalky mouthful of darker fruit. No hit of oak, no big alcohol (13.5%). Loved it with both steak on the barbie and (on night 2) beef burgundy pie. Ah, summer in lockdown - something has to be special! - Michael L
A serious Etna Rosso from the I Custodi group of cult producers. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio make up this structured and savoury red full of power and persistence. Dark fruited and noticably volcanic in nature - you can almost taste the black mineral-riddled earth from which it is grown. The tannin profile also has a presence so we recommend drinking it with some protein and make sure you decant this one. - Chris L
