Tasting Notes
Named after the Wood vineyard owners' dog, Alfred, who passed away in 2012. This wine captures the mineral intensity of the Wood vineyard and is sourced from the slope of the east facing Wood vineyard. Deep purple fruits, tightly wound into a core of sinewy spice. Amazing florals. - Winery Note
Jauma is the natural wine project of James Erskine, one of Australia’s leading voices in minimal-intervention winemaking. Founded in 2010, the label is based in the Adelaide Hills, though fruit is sourced from a network of organic and biodynamic vineyards across McLaren Vale and beyond, working closely with growers to ensure sustainable farming and old-vine health.
Grenache is at the heart of Jauma, often from dry-grown, low-yielding bush vines that produce wines of perfume, brightness and savoury detail. Alongside Grenache, James also makes expressive bottlings of Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and other Mediterranean varieties, always with a light touch that champions freshness, texture and drinkability.
In the cellar, winemaking is deliberately hands-off: native ferments, no fining or filtration, and little to no added sulphur. The wines are bottled with vibrancy and a sense of immediacy, often playful in presentation but deeply thoughtful in execution.
Jauma has become a benchmark for Australian natural wine, celebrated for its purity, energy and joyful character, all while retaining a clear sense of place and respect for the land.
