Readers will face an enjoyable challenge determining whether they prefer the brilliant 2020 Pommard 1er Cru Les Fremiers or its 2019 predecessor, though sadly, in 2020 there are only four barrels—around 1,200 bottles—for a thirsty world.Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, rose petals, orange zest and exotic spices, the wine is full-bodied, supple and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a deep, concentrated mid-palate and a long, perfumed finish.Seamless and complete, it’s a brilliant wine.Score: 96, The Wine Advocate – William Kelley, Tasted:February 2023, Drink 2030-2060
The Bouley family can trace their winemaking lineage back to the early 14th century and Jean-Marc took over the family domaine in 1985 after the death of his father. Today the estate spans 12 hectares in Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. Since 2006 winemaking is carried out by his son Thomas, who returned to France after vintages in Oregon and Felton Road in New Zealand. These are wines that bridge the gap between traditional Burgundy & the New World, showing superb transparency of terroir, superb purity and fruit density throughout their length. Considered by many to be one of the rising stars of the Côtede-Beaune. - Importer Note
