Tasting Notes
This is a blend of three different vineyard plots on the highly appreciated AOC Bourgogne land in between Puligny Montrachet and Meursault. Winemakers go to great lengths to find fruit from this sector to add weight and depth to their regional blends. Jean-Marie makes a hand-sewn natural wine from his 1.5 ha. The aromatics are surprisingly full-on, and laid over a striking mineral saltiness and fine acidity. Unfined, unfiltered, zero entrant natural wine, fermented and aged 12 months in old Barrels. This wine fights above its weight with the best of Meursault. - Importer Note
Being an outsider, from the alpine region of Savoie, it must have taken a lot of guts and determination for Jean-Marie to find and secure 1.5 hectares of top quality AOC Bourgogne chardonnay right in between the ultra famous villages of Meursault and Puligny Montrachet. That was in 2001, first vintage was 2004, and rightly, the cuvee was called 'Le Petit Têtu ", translating to 'The Little Stubborn Guy ".
Jean-Marie likes to call his vineyard work 'gardening ", and the way he works the vines truly is by hand with a great amount of time given to the details. Viticulture is biodynamic and cellar work is meticulous, with natural yeasts, zero entrants, zero SO2, long ageing on fine lees in quality old oak Barrels and Demi-Muids. This is exciting, pure, natural white burgundy, as is too rarely found. Certified Organic/Biodynamic. - Importer Note
