Tasting Notes
The bigger brother to the Adelaide Hills Syrah from the Jericho family. It's concentrated and dark fruited as you'd expect from McLaren Vale, along with more grippy tannin and fleshy ripe fruit. Although big, it's still balanced and friendly... much like the Big Friendly Giant. - Chris L
For lovers of bigger, but quality, shiraz from McLaren Vale. Tasting through 3 days for a 4 year old wine saw big bright savoury blackberry and black currant fruit, with some sizzle from alcohol and oak. A feel of big fruit, savoury and warmth - what more could a lover of bigger style reds ask for! 14.5% alc. - Michael L
Jericho Wines is a family-run winery based in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Established in 2012, the project brings together several generations of the Jericho family, with Neil Jericho’s decades of winemaking experience complemented by his children’s fresh perspective. Their vineyards are centred in the cool-climate Adelaide Hills, with additional fruit sourced from McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to highlight regional strengths.
The focus is on varieties that thrive in cooler conditions, including Chardonnay, Fiano, Pinot Noir and Syrah, alongside bold yet refined reds such as Grenache and Tempranillo. Farming is sustainable, and winemaking is restrained—wild ferments, gentle handling and careful use of oak ensure purity of fruit and balance. The wines are contemporary and expressive, combining approachability with a depth that reflects both site and craftsmanship.
Jericho has quickly established itself as part of South Australia’s new wave of thoughtful producers, offering wines that are elegant, vibrant and true to place.
