Tasting Notes

There is a hint of phenolic character (think olive or nut oil) to the ripe and lightly exotic if restrained aromas of white flower, white peach and softly spicy and citrus nuances. There is knockout intensity to the chiseled middle weight plus flavors that deliver excellent persistence. Like the Chassagne villages, this needs to develop more depth and that may well occur in time. 91/2026+ - Allen Meadows.

The Colin name resonate very far in Côte de Beaune in Burgundy since many of its members run prominent Domaines in Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet.

Joseph Colin has been trained at Domaine Marc Colin and worked alongside his brother Pierre-Yves to make the family wines. In 2016, Joseph decided to create his own Domaine, and subsequently, he took about six hectares of vineyards from his family holding, representing about nineteen different appellations, to start his venture.

It is a blessing when a talented person alike Joseph Colin decide to break free from the family tradition to pursue his own destiny. It means that Joseph isn't restrained to a family order anymore and his talent can blossom naturally and without borders.

In the space of two vintages, we can already see what Joseph has accomplished so well in the vineyard and at the winery. He is already making some of the best wines of the area.

The yields are kept very low in order to create wines of substance, yet Joseph picks on the early side to retain an unmistakable purity and freshness in his wines. He likes the tension and vibrancy in his whites and that makes for some very fine wines at the end.

Purity is a word that Joseph particularly associates with his wines, since he doesn't like heavy handed/ reductive and oaky wines, but rather let the different terroirs shine quickly in the glass. The wines are displaying a tense and vibrant profile, championing the minerality and finesse yet there is a comforting richness mid-palate.

The wines are handled as little as possible to avoid trituration. Therefore there is no battonage, no filtration and no fining since these different processes take away tremendous characters from the wine. Only very healthy grapes are making it to the press, and no sulphur is used during the winemaking process. That is all up until the last racking, where a medicinal dose of sulphur is introduced before sedimentation in stainless steel tank. That is about one to three months before bottling.

Joseph recommends to decant his whites to have a great experience at the early stage of life of the bottles. - Importer Note
