Tasting Notes
From the sacred limestone slopes of the Abtserde—a historic site once farmed by Cistercian monks—this GG shows piercing precision and a signature cool-toned mineral line. The nose is tightly coiled, offering lime zest, crushed stone, white peach and wild herbs, underpinned by a chalky austerity that hints at the power beneath. The palate is electric and finely etched, with citrus and stone-fruit purity carried by rapier acidity and a saline, almost crystalline tension. A long, vibrating finish leaves impressions of wet limestone and quiet herbal depth. Profoundly structured yet feather-light in feel, this is Abtserde at its most elemental and refined. - Chris L
Weingut Keller, based in the Rheinhessen village of Flörsheim-Dalsheim, is one of Germany’s most revered estates, producing dry Rieslings of extraordinary precision, depth and longevity. Led by Klaus-Peter Keller and his wife Julia, the domaine has become synonymous with meticulous viticulture and a terroir-first philosophy. Their holdings include some of Rheinhessen’s most exceptional limestone sites—Morstein, Abtserde, Kirchspiel, Hubacker—along with small parcels of historic vines, all farmed with organic and increasingly biodynamic principles. Low yields, careful canopy work and fastidious selection ensure perfectly balanced fruit at harvest. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous, élevage is patient and unobtrusive, and the focus is on clarity rather than embellishment. Keller’s Grosse Gewächse are celebrated for their tension, minerality and quiet power—wines that unite crystalline purity with profound depth, placing the estate among the greatest white-wine producers in the world.
