Tasting Notes
This years Rouge Deluxe sees this cuvée move away from 100% Syrah to include some delicious Grenache, a small surplus from the certified organic Landsborough Chapoutier vineyard under the guidance of Cory Hope.
The Syrah was 80% whole bunch in open concrete fermenters harvested from block 5 chapoutier. Grenache was fermented separately all destemmed pump overs once a day. Walsh block Syrah harvested on the 5th may 100% destemmed fermentation in open concrete two pump overs per day. All parcels were basket press & barrelled down in various sized casks from 228, 500 & 600L of French & Austrian coopers. Racked in February Bottled with minimal Sulphur in March.
A big nod to the southern Rhône here.. Loving this combination of the Grenache providing a nice supple texture & lending some tannins from the Landsborough site into the bunchy syrah & the cold climate syrah spice. Dig in, perfect for the winter wonderland. - Winemaker Note
Owen Latta was raised on the land around Ballarat. His folks, owners of the vineyard/winery Eastern Peak, have laid the groundwork for who is now making some of the most progressive wines in the country under his own label - Latta. They're exciting, thought-provoking and loveable wines from Ballarat, Pyrenees and Grampians in Victoria. He has a natural approach in the cellar and is sourcing organically farmed fruit where possible. You have to try these wines, any of them, they're fantastic! - Chris L
