Tasting Notes
This iconic Le Piane estate has led the resurgence of quality wines from one of Italy’s forgotten regions…. Alto Piedmont.
Le Piane Boca is equal to the finest Barolo and Barbaresco in terms of varietal purity, energy, elegance and longevity but show a different side of Nebbiolo. They stand apart in their fruit profile, tannin structure, distinct aromatics and are some of the most soulful & expressive wines being grown in Piedmont today. It is 85% old vine Nebbiolo and 15% Vespolina grown on volcanic soil. The alpine micro climate combined with the sun drenched southern exposure delivers perfect maturing for Nebbiolo. Made without the use of modern technology, these wines speak of a time gone by. Natural fermentation with native yeasts, extended maceration & long ageing in old oak. Hauntingly beautiful, they offer fabulous drinking with minimal cellaring but reward patience. - Importer Note
Less is more! Minimal intervention or Lo-fi wines encapsulate those producers who keep additions and manipulations to a minimum during the winemaking process. This means the wines are wild fermented, unfiltered and unfined, and only add sulfur during the process.
