Tasting Notes
The "Grand Cras" vineyard is one of six climats* of the cru of Morgon. The vineyard is located in the Southeast of the Côte de Py on alluvial, shist and granitic soils.
The bouquet is full and broad with wild blackberry, fresh strawberry and blackcurrant flavours. This is fine and powerful. The palate echoes the nose, with subtle plum and licorice notes built on a fine tannic structure. It can be paired with game, charcoaled rib eye, charcuterie and a cow cheese.
It will benefit from being decanted for 35 minutes before serving and it can be kept up until 2026+. Please serve in big Pinot Noir glasses. 100% Gamay. *Climat refers to a named plot of vineyard. - Importer Note
Mee Godard is one of the most exciting and cerebral winemakers in Beaujolais, based in Morgon, where she has quickly established herself as a benchmark for deeply structured, terroir-driven Gamay. After studying enology in Burgundy and Oregon, she founded her domaine in 2013, acquiring old-vine parcels in Morgon’s most esteemed climats—Corcelette, Grand Cras, and the revered Côte du Py. These sites, planted largely in poor, weathered schist and granite, provide naturally low yields and fruit of remarkable intensity and mineral depth.
Farming is meticulous and effectively organic, with a strong emphasis on soil vitality and biodiversity. Godard harvests by hand, often later than her neighbours, seeking full phenolic maturity. In the cellar she works with precision and restraint: mostly whole-cluster fermentations with native yeasts, long macerations, and élevage in a combination of concrete, neutral barrels and large foudres. Sulphur is used sparingly, and the focus throughout is on clarity, purity and expression of site.
Her wines are known for their tension, dark-fruited depth and serious tannic architecture—Morgons built for ageing, with a Burgundian sense of refinement. Across the range, from the supple Villages cuvées to the profound Côte du Py, Mee Godard’s wines consistently rank among the most distinctive and sought-after in the region, reflecting an exacting philosophy and a deep connection to Morgon’s schistous hillsides.
