Tasting Notes
This is a brand new cuvée from 2022 ! It is comprised of Nosiola, Vermentino and Malvasia. I’ve long been a fan of Nosiola since discovering the Foradori rendition of the variety so when I found out there was some sitting in a nursery vineyard in Australia I had to get my hands on some ! The vines were only planted in 2015 and there are only 3 long rows planted in the Mt Camel vineyard in Heathcote. In fact these are the only Nosiola plantings in Australia. This is also where the Malvasia and the Vermentino are grown.
The soils here are rocky and volcanic, and comprised mostly of Ironstone, dolerite and green jasper. These elements really show in this wine. It is minerally driven and has very “rocky” freshness to it.
The handling of the Nosiola was approx. 3 weeks on skins, and the other varieties around. 10 days. Anyone who has had the straight Nosiola I made in 2017 and 2018 will know the style of this wine. It has some texture from the skin contact but is ultimately very fresh, complex and well balanced. - Winery Note.
Momento Mori Wines was born out of a simple desire to make wines that first and foremost have respect for the living. They are crafted with consideration and integrity throughout the entire process. And ultimately (and selfishly) are wines that I wanted to drink.
We work with like minded growers throughout Victoria to source small pockets of high quality fruit that has been nurtured with the same philosophy in mind and we are ever encouraging and striving for more sustainable and natural farming practices.
All of the wines we produce are the definition of hand-made. Small ferments, wild yeast, no oak or mechanical pumps, no fining or filtering and no additions, including no S02 at any stage of wine making or bottling.
