Tasting Notes
Perfectly perfumed with ripe strawberries, raspberry, cranberry, roses and some subtle spices in the background. The palate matches the perfume on the nose with a stew of fragrant, plush red fruits and floral undertones. Always a great Barbaresco. - Aaron C.
Olek Bondonio is one of Barbaresco’s rising stars, crafting soulful, traditional wines from his family’s vineyards in and around the Roncagliette cru, a site famed for its steep slopes and proximity to the historic Gaja holdings. Olek, who grew up in Barbaresco, returned to take over the family estate with a commitment to expressing the region’s terroirs through thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking.
The vineyards, including old vines of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, are farmed organically with great care, avoiding chemical inputs and focusing on soil vitality and biodiversity. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous with native yeasts, macerations are long, and élevage is carried out in large neutral oak botti, echoing the traditional practices of the Langhe.
The Barbaresco Roncagliette is his flagship, known for its perfume, structure and mineral depth, while his Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba and Langhe Nebbiolo showcase honesty and drinkability. These are wines of authenticity—marked by purity, finesse and a sense of place—earning Bondonio a reputation as one of the new generation shaping Barbaresco’s future while holding fast to its heritage.
