Tasting Notes

Francisco Alfonso planted this hillside back in 1982 and then spent fifteen years selling the wine locally with no label on it at all. The winery only became Pedralonga in 1997, named for the great chunks of granite breaking up through the soil, and it is his son Miguel running things now. Seven and a half hectares of pure granite ten miles off the Atlantic in Galicia, farmed organically from the very start and biodynamically since 2007. In the cellar Miguel does close to nothing. 

The Albariño goes in without destemming, native yeasts only, malo left alone to happen as it will, then long ageing on lees. What comes out is textural and structured with bracing acidity and real mineral depth. - Pete L
