Tasting Notes
Classic Picq – a pure, racy expression of Chablis. The bouquet lifts with lemon, lime and green apple alongside a touch of chalk dust and crushed shell. The palate is lithe and energetic, driven by crisp acidity and a saline thread that speaks clearly of Kimmeridgian soils. A benchmark villages Chablis: vibrant, precise, and immensely refreshing. - Chris L
Domaine Gilbert Picq is a highly regarded family-run estate in the heart of Chablis, renowned for producing wines of purity, precision, and terroir expression. Based in the village of Chichée, just south of the town of Chablis itself, the Picq family has cultivated their vineyards for generations, firmly believing that great wine is made in the vineyard first. Today the domaine is run by Gilbert’s children Didier, Pascal, and Marilyn, who continue the tradition of meticulous farming and minimal intervention in the cellar.
Their approach is classically Chablisien: hand-tended vines, low yields, careful pressing, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel to preserve freshness and the signature chalky minerality of the Kimmeridgian soils. No oak is used, allowing the wines to speak clearly of their origin. The results are whites of tension and clarity, with citrus, saline, and flinty notes that have made Picq a reference point for lovers of authentic, artisanal Chablis.
Picq’s wines—from their straight Chablis through to the single-vineyard bottlings—are benchmarks for the region, offering remarkable value and age-worthy depth. They are sought after by sommeliers and collectors alike for their honest reflection of Chablis’ limestone terroir and their consistent, uncompromising quality.
