Tasting Notes
The En Vaudecorse Chablis is very similar to the normal AC Chablis only it is souced from older vines planted on leaner soils and the quality increase is obvious. More concentrated and more body while still maintaining the typical minerality seen in good Chablis. Love it or leave it, because someone else will love it - someone like me!! - Chris L
This small domaine located in the sleepy village of Chichée is one of Chablis's finest, a source of concentrated and incisive Chablis that are well worth seeking. Very attentive farming, conservative yields, and extended élevage on the lees in stainless steel are the rudiments of the approach. A range of Chablis AC bottlings (that would embarrass many loftier appellations) is complemented by two premiers crus; Vaucoupin and Vosgros. Perhaps Picq's wines remain the preserve of the cognoscenti because he doesn't own any of Chablis's grand cru slopes? Whatever the reason, it emphatically has nothing to do with the quality of his wines, which number among the region's best in their alliance of depth and detail, power and purity. This is an address that comes warmly recommended.
For anyone new to these wines, Pascal Picq loves working in the vines and tasting Chablis; Didier Picq loves cellar work and tasting Chablis, Champagne and Bize Savigny! Didier uses only stainless steel and is usually one of the last to bottle his wine, utilizing extended lees contact in tank for up to 22 months! Amazing wines of purity and density. - Importer Note
