Tasting Notes
The 2022 Chablis Vauclaire represents the first time this 1.65-hectare parcel has been bottled on its own. It has a lovely, slightly chalky bouquet that opens beautifully in the glass, with hints of yellow plum and jasmine. The palate is well-balanced with a crisp line of acidity, orange rind and a dash of white pepper. Classic in style with more depth on the finish compared to the Chablis Village. This marks a strong debut. 91-93 points – Neal Martin, Vinous
Domaine Gilbert Picq is a highly regarded family-run estate in the heart of Chablis, renowned for producing wines of purity, precision, and terroir expression. Based in the village of Chichée, just south of the town of Chablis itself, the Picq family has cultivated their vineyards for generations, firmly believing that great wine is made in the vineyard first. Today the domaine is run by Gilbert’s children Didier, Pascal, and Marilyn, who continue the tradition of meticulous farming and minimal intervention in the cellar.
Their approach is classically Chablisien: hand-tended vines, low yields, careful pressing, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel to preserve freshness and the signature chalky minerality of the Kimmeridgian soils. No oak is used, allowing the wines to speak clearly of their origin. The results are whites of tension and clarity, with citrus, saline, and flinty notes that have made Picq a reference point for lovers of authentic, artisanal Chablis.
Picq’s wines—from their straight Chablis through to the single-vineyard bottlings—are benchmarks for the region, offering remarkable value and age-worthy depth. They are sought after by sommeliers and collectors alike for their honest reflection of Chablis’ limestone terroir and their consistent, uncompromising quality.
