Tasting Notes
Sourced from old vines with naturally low yields, the Vieilles Vignes is the most powerful of the domaine’s village-level wines. Aromas of ripe stone fruit, lemon curd and crushed oyster shell emerge with air, framed by a fine chalky reduction. The palate is layered and intense, combining weight and depth with Picq’s trademark precision. A wine of substance and length, with the structure to age gracefully for a decade or more. - Chris L
Domaine Gilbert Picq is a highly regarded family-run estate in the heart of Chablis, renowned for producing wines of purity, precision, and terroir expression. Based in the village of Chichée, just south of the town of Chablis itself, the Picq family has cultivated their vineyards for generations, firmly believing that great wine is made in the vineyard first. Today the domaine is run by Gilbert’s children Didier, Pascal, and Marilyn, who continue the tradition of meticulous farming and minimal intervention in the cellar.
Their approach is classically Chablisien: hand-tended vines, low yields, careful pressing, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel to preserve freshness and the signature chalky minerality of the Kimmeridgian soils. No oak is used, allowing the wines to speak clearly of their origin. The results are whites of tension and clarity, with citrus, saline, and flinty notes that have made Picq a reference point for lovers of authentic, artisanal Chablis.
Picq’s wines—from their straight Chablis through to the single-vineyard bottlings—are benchmarks for the region, offering remarkable value and age-worthy depth. They are sought after by sommeliers and collectors alike for their honest reflection of Chablis’ limestone terroir and their consistent, uncompromising quality.
