Tasting Notes

Occhetti is ruby red in colour with garnet hues, typical of this grape variety. Its nose is elegant with notes of raspberries that smoothly merge with hints of roses and licorice. The palate is full, harmonious with a lengthy tannin-rich finish. - Winery Note

Prunotto is a historic estate in Piedmont, founded in 1904 as a growers’ cooperative before evolving into a family-run winery under Alfredo Prunotto in the 1920s. Alfredo’s pioneering vision—bottling Barolo and Barbaresco at a time when most Nebbiolo was sold in bulk—helped establish Piedmont’s reputation for fine wine. In 1989, the Antinori family partnered with Prunotto, and by the 1990s had assumed full ownership, bringing renewed investment, modern expertise and a continued respect for tradition.

The estate’s vineyard holdings extend across Langhe, Monferrato and Roero, including prized sites such as Bussia in Barolo and Secondine in Barbaresco. Farming is attentive and sustainable, with a focus on preserving soil vitality and vineyard identity. In the cellar, Prunotto balances modern precision with classic ageing, using both large Slavonian oak and French barrique to highlight varietal purity and structure.

Prunotto’s range encompasses benchmark Nebbiolo wines alongside Barbera, Dolcetto and regional whites, all marked by clarity, balance and approachability. From its historic roots to its current stature under Antinori, Prunotto remains a leading ambassador of Piedmont’s tradition and innovation.
