Tasting Notes
Bright and approachable, this Crianza opens with aromas of red cherry, raspberry and plum, lifted by hints of vanilla, clove and dried herbs from time in American oak. The palate is supple and fruit-driven, with juicy red fruit framed by soft tannins and balanced acidity, offering freshness alongside gentle spice. A touch of tobacco and savoury earth adds depth, while the finish is smooth, vibrant and moreish. A classic, easy-drinking Rioja that balances immediacy with regional character. - Chris L
Ramón Bilbao is one of Rioja’s most recognisable and enduring wineries, founded in 1924 in Haro, the historic heart of Rioja Alta. Named after its adventurous founder, Ramón Bilbao quickly earned a reputation for producing classic, age-worthy Tempranillo-based wines. Today the bodega combines nearly a century of tradition with a progressive outlook, under the guidance of its modern winemaking team.
The vineyards are primarily located in Rioja Alta, where altitude and cooler conditions favour elegance and freshness. Tempranillo is the cornerstone, complemented by Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo for reds, and Viura for whites. In the cellar, the hallmark style blends traditional American oak maturation with careful fruit handling to produce wines that balance Rioja’s hallmark spice and structure with purity and drinkability.
From Crianza through Reserva and Gran Reserva to limited single-vineyard bottlings, Ramón Bilbao’s range reflects both the heritage of Rioja and a forward-thinking vision, making it a trusted name for approachable, authentic wines that also have the capacity to age.
