Tasting Notes
Beautifully savoury Cotes du Rhone from Roger Sabon. Most of the time I get a little disappointed by the ripe nature of Cotes du Rhone, but this is anything but that. There is intensity and power yet a lot of the profile is secondary (as opposed to primary fruit). Forest floor, sweet spice and asphalt . The palate is long in flavour with ripe tannins. - Chris L
Domaine Roger Sabon is a premier Southern Rhône estate established in 1952, highly regarded for crafting Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines of exceptional elegance, power, and fruit purity. Across their 50 hectares of vines, the family leverages diverse soils—from the pebble-strewn plots of the La Crau plateau to sandy, limestone-rich parcels—to build deep structural complexity. Under winemaking direction by Didier Négron, the estate employs nearly complete de-stemming, long macerations, and judicious aging in large oak foudres and neutral vessels to preserve freshness while refining the wine's texture. This approach creates wines ranging from plush, accessible Côtes-du-Rhône to their profound, old-vine flagship bottling, Le Secret des Sabon.
