Tasting Notes
A regal and brooding rendering of the Hoffmann’s soil from a meagre season plagued by wind and fire. Assembled from the two oldest sections within the Hoffmann families vineyard; planted on their own roots in 1927 and the oldest vines between 1888 & 1912 with welcome smidgens from the neighbouring blocks planted in 1994, 1995 & 1996.
These 18 Burgundian Pièces were carefully assembled and bottled amidst the spring after enduring their 80+ weeks of elevage. Bottles were filled without filtration, fining or sparging (the removal of naturally occurring oxygen & C02) and all transfer’s were completed via gravity prior to bottling.
Yields are usually tiny, ranging between 9 & 17 hectolitres per hectare. - Winemaker Note
Fraser Kinley is the man behind Sami-Odi wines. In 2003 he left his home in Auckland, New Zealand and headed to the Barossa where he spent time working at Torbreck and Standish Wine Company. In 2006 he made the move to Barossa and set up a small winery "Sami Odi". His wines are made from carefully selected plots of vines coming from some of the finest vineyards in the valley. All the plots are vinified separately and blended later on to create a wine that is greater than the sum of its parts.
