Tasting Notes
This wine shows elegant perfume from the outset—cherry blossom, wild strawberry, and pomegranate mingled with soft forest floor and faint cloves. On the palate it is refined and poised: juicy red fruit underpinned by a bright thread of acidity, fine-textured tannins, and a subtle earthy/mineral edge. It carries a gentle oak spice without obscuring fruit purity, finishing long, balanced, and memorable. - Chris L
Sisu is a small, independent wine label based in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, created by winemaker Jake Sheedy with a focus on purity, site expression and minimal intervention. The name “Sisu,” drawn from a Finnish word meaning resilience and determination, reflects the ethos behind the project: wines made with patience, respect for nature and an uncompromising pursuit of quality.
The Sisu vineyard is located in the Upper Coal River where the altitude is higher and climate more continental than maritime (like most of the Coal River region).Sisu mainly produces Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir, as well as other curios like Nebbiolo and Gamay in cool-climate styles. Fruit is hand-harvested, and winemaking relies on wild ferments, gentle handling and restrained oak use to ensure clarity and freshness.
The wines are celebrated for their precision, vibrancy and textural finesse—capturing Tasmania’s unique cool-climate character while showing both immediacy and the potential for graceful ageing. Sisu stands as a thoughtful, terroir-driven voice in the new wave of Tasmanian wine.
