Tasting Notes
Catarratto is a native variety to Sicily and produces lovely wines like this wine from Valdibella. It's a lovely fresh style of wine with layers of fresh citrus, ripe apples and other orchard fruits with hints of white flowers and flecks of sea salt. It's the kind of wine that can hold its own against most lighter dishes, especially seafood courses. - Pete L
Valdibella is a co-operative winery in Camporeale, Sicily - the hills outside Palermo in the west of the island. Here they have more of an African climactic influence than a Mediterranean one, where the soils are sandy and the landscape dry. The vineyards are farmed organically with a focus on soil health and canopy management to grow nutrient dense, high quality fruit. Plantings include: Nero d’Avola, Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Grillo, Catarratto and Zibibbo. The wines are produced naturally with no to low sulfur added. This is no ordinary co-op.
