Tasting Notes
A bright, mineral Riesling from slate rich Saar sites, showing classic lift and precision. The nose opens with lime, green apple and white peach, alongside a subtle wet stone edge. The palate is fresh and energetic, with zesty citrus, ripe orchard fruit and a clear mineral line running through it. Fine acidity keeps everything tight and focused, finishing clean, crisp and highly drinkable. - Pete L
Located in the historic heart of the Wiltingen monastery hills, Van Volxem is a standard-bearer for the resurgence of the Saar. Under the visionary leadership of Roman Niewodniczanski, the estate has meticulously restored some of the region’s most prestigious steep-slope, slate vineyards to their former glory. The winemaking philosophy is rooted in tradition, utilizing indigenous yeasts, neutral oak foudres, and extended lees ageing to produce Rieslings with incredible texture and "slate-driven" minerality. These are wines of profound harmony and moderate alcohol, eschewing modern tricks in favour of a rich, tactile mouthfeel and a shimmering acidity that reflects the unique, cool-climate terroir of the Saar.
