Tasting Notes
A Riesling from the Schonfels vineyard in the Mosel, showing a precise and expressive style. Aromas open cool and mineral before building into apricot, yellow pear, lemon balm and wild herbs. The palate is focused and energetic, with slatey minerality, ripe stone fruit and finely integrated acidity. Long, detailed and beautifully balanced, with a lively, moreish finish. - Pete L
Located in the historic heart of the Wiltingen monastery hills, Van Volxem is a standard-bearer for the resurgence of the Saar. Under the visionary leadership of Roman Niewodniczanski, the estate has meticulously restored some of the region’s most prestigious steep-slope, slate vineyards to their former glory. The winemaking philosophy is rooted in tradition, utilizing indigenous yeasts, neutral oak foudres, and extended lees ageing to produce Rieslings with incredible texture and "slate-driven" minerality. These are wines of profound harmony and moderate alcohol, eschewing modern tricks in favour of a rich, tactile mouthfeel and a shimmering acidity that reflects the unique, cool-climate terroir of the Saar.
