Tasting Notes
Carmelo Vecchio and his wife Rosa grew up on the northern slopes of Etna, and they farm just one hectare of organic vineyard at around 600 metres, with some vines as old as 130 years. It's mostly Nerello Mascalese with a splash of other local varieties, given 12 days on skins, then malo in oak and six months on lees. Expect raspberry, cracked pepper, a touch of vanilla and plenty of earth, all wrapped up in that classic volcanic grip. A brawny, energetic red, get your hands on some while you can! Peter L.
